If you’re a child on your way to school, you’d never expect it would be the last time you’d see your mother again. For two children back in the 1980s, they were dropped off at school like any other day by their mum, but would never see her alive again. Nor indeed, would they or anyone else really know what happened to her, 40 years later.

The case we’ll be examining in this week’s Testimony is one of the country’s most haunting unsolved murders. The grim discovery of the mum’s body led to an enormous manhunt to find the deeply disturbing killer - but that party remains in the wind to this very day.

There are no easy details, or answers, in this story, but we will try to unpick just what we know, and why to this day, this young mum’s murder is still baffling detectives.
